![]() We invite all of you to visit our Boston brewery, where it all began, and our beautiful brewery in Windsor, Vermont. ![]() One thing that has changed: in August 2014 Harpoon became an employee owned company! We still love brewing beer and enjoying it with friends. Though many things have changed since the early days of Harpoon, much has stayed the same. It was hard to imagine that craft brewing would become what it has today. Beer lovers can sit at the bar or around long wooden tables and enjoy pints of freshly brewed Harpoon draft beer with friends, old and new. Fresh, local craft beer began making its way out to Boston beer drinkers. In June of 1987 a warehouse space on the Boston waterfront was transformed into a brewery and the first Harpoon Ale was brewed. They decided to build a brewery so that they could brew the beers that they wanted to drink, and invite their friends to the brewery to drink it with them. They werethree friends who loved beer and loved drinking beer together but found. Traveling through Europe and experiencing the rich traditions of European brewing and beer drinking enhanced their love of beer and opened their eyes to the rich beer culture they wanted back home. Harpoonwas founded in 1986 by Dan Kenary, Rich Doyle, and George Ligeti. In order to make it easier for you to pick out which of our IPAs you are going to drink tonight, I am going to quickly outline all of our delicious offerings starting with…ġ00 Barrel Series #43 White IPA (Bottled TODAY) Last year marked the inaugural #IPAday and you can read our post to learn more about the history of this awesome holiday, which gives us yet another reason to celebrate our favorite beer style – IPA! When we first started brewing Harpoon IPA as a summer seasonal (nearly two decades ago!) we had no idea that one day there would one day be a holiday in honor of the style. ![]() That’s right, it’s #IPAday – it’s the best day of the year! As you can imagine, this holiday holds a special place in our hearts. For the East, Harpoon Brewery has Hoppy Adventure IPA or Nanas Nightcap Porter. The first elimination will happen next week – stay tuned to the blog (and our Facebook page) to learn more about the beers, and which ones will make it to the final round on September 17th, and ultimatley which one will win this year’s competition. Harpoon Octoberfest October 7th & 8th Harpoon Octoberfest at our Windsor brewery is much like our festival of the same name in Boston nonstop live oompah music, chicken dancing, cake eating, bratwurst, and of course, barrels upon barrels of freshly brewed Harpoon beer. Another team dumped cherries in, while another team used coconut. I’m not kidding, one team developed a beer that includes Fluff, chocolate and graham crackers. Creativity is involved in every aspect – from recipe development to tap handle design. With over 10 teams this year, the competition is quickly heating up. The winning homebrew will be featured next year as a member of our 100 Barrel Series! ![]() By the end of the day, a winner will be crowned. For the past 26 years, we have prided ourselves in crafting beers that we enjoy drinking, and what better way to explore new recipes than with an employee home brew competition?Įvery year employees from every part of the company get together in small teams and brew a beer for the annual homebrew competition that takes place during our annual company outing (September 17th this year… yes, both breweries will be closed.) Everyone has the opportunity to taste the homebrewed beers and then, the voting begins.
